Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Why does my company need a Web Site? There are many reasons to maintain a Web Presence but the bottom line is the best one. Putting your business, or organization, where people can see it and contact you is probably why you are in business. The "web" is looked on at the "yellow pages" of the world. More people are using the web everyday to find businesses and/or organizations that reflect their interest. Access anytime, day or night, Holiday or workday, your information is available and unlike the telephone directories, you can change your information any time you want!
  2. What if I do not do business with the "world"; I only serve my local area? You can restrict your sales to a local area if you desire. The Search Engines allow searches to be restricted any way the user desires. Many of the people who use your Web Site will be current customers, or members, wanting updated information.
  3. How do people find my Web Site? The best way is to publish your web address (URL) on your business cards, stationary, etc. Search Engines are another method used by Internet travelers to seek out sites containing information or products.
  4. What will my web address be? Your web address is the URL (Universal Resource Locator) that is assigned to your web site. It is actually a number in the format 123.456.789.012. As it is difficult to remember very many sets of numbers the Internet uses DNS (Domain Name Service). This allows everyone to have a Web Site Name similar to the names you see given to telephone numbers (call 1-800 my name). You purchase your name from a service and there are no duplicates.
  5. What is HTML? HTML is the language of the Internet. It means Hyper Text Markup Language. This is a "transportable" language, a language that can be read by browsers on many different types of computers.
  6. What does "machine readable" mean? This means files that are saved by computer. In our context it means files you have sent to us as an attachment to an e-mail or saved to disk and mailed to us. In other words, we do not have to re-type the information.
  7. What about pictures on my Web Site? You can use photographs, graphics or both on your site. We prefer your photos to be taken with a digital camera and sent to us "machine readable", but we can scan regular photos or custom graphics. Pictures for the web should not be dark or too large; the larger the picture, the longer it takes for people to see it.
  8. What type of computer do I need to have a Web Site? You can have a Web Site and not even own a computer. Your pages will be "served" from a web server connected to the Internet. You will need Internet access to view your site and read the e-mail from your site.
  9. What about your Logo?  I spent over 30 years teaching Computers and Electronics.  In that time many students have complained they could not get the same answer I did on their calculators or computers.   I developed a technique of  "Machine Intimidation".  I would look at the calculator or computer in a threatening manner while the student solved the problem again.  Amazingly, the "machine" would be intimidated and "give up" the correct answer.  Our Logo reflects the idea that your computer will behave or "We have ways to make it do so!"
  10. Why invest in a website? With a website you can reach tens of thousands of people on a daily basis--millions of people worldwide can visit or purchase from you 24 hours a day! A website saves you time and money that would otherwise be spent on phone contact, bulk mailings, display ads, etc. Recent statistics show 60,000 new people logging onto the Internet every week! If all these potential clients can't find you online, they will find your competition! And unlike the "Yellow Pages", you can change your ad as you need to.
